AREA AGENCY ON AGING-FIVE COUNTY INVITES YOU TO TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR CHRONIC PAIN

FREE six-week workshop for those living with chronic pain.

The Area Agency on Aging invites community members of all ages to attend the upcoming Chronic Pain Self-Management workshop. This free workshop series will provide education and help participants, and their support person, deal with the ongoing issues associated with chronic pain.

Workshop participants will learn about strategies to overcome problems such as frustration, fatigue, isolation, and poor sleep; exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, endurance and pacing activity with rest; appropriate use of medications and evaluating new treatments; communication skills; and the importance of good nutrition in pain management.

“The teaching process makes this program effective,” said Kristina Raner of the Area Agency on Aging, “Classes are highly participatory. Mutual support and success builds participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.”

The Chronic Pain Self-Management Program two-hour workshop is held one day a week for 6 weeks. Participants make weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program. Program outcomes include participants who are more vitality or energy, less pain, less dependence on others, improved mental health, more involved in everyday activities, and more satisfied with their lives.

The Area Agency on Aging-Five County Association of Governments has been providing services to frail elderly and disabled adults for over 20 years. We have an experienced staff with extensive skills and knowledge of community resources who can access these services to meet the needs of the aging population across five counties - Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane, and Washington - in Southern Utah.
